February 2005 Meeting History

This was a very well attended meeting. No real theme this time either, but many people brought much gear. Iamtheevil1 brought some phreaking toys, including a cool old handset with alligator clips. Rax brought along a Mac mini and booted it up for us to use. RetroTech brought his old radio to do an antenna mod right at the meeting. In the circle I was sitting in, talk ranged mostly around programming (Java and C# predominately). I also brought along the locks (8 of them) and picks since Surface_Tension wanted to learn, and that he did, he worked his way up to the master lock, along with some other hackers. Most of the lock picking was done when we went to Nicks’ Pizza…Pizza and lock picking.

Attendance count: About 20

January 2005 Meeting History

There was no real theme to this meeting. Rhy0t got me back into lock picking from last months meeting, so I brought 5 locks and a couple sets of picks. Many people at the meeting were able to pick up the skill in practically no time. iamtheevil1 whipped out one of those random number generating authentication devices, so that was cool. I also talked about a way to get around Napster, with it’s disadvantages though. Rocket from Interz0ne attended this meeting (correct me if I got the handle spelled wrong), he seems to drop by once a year. Afterwords, a lot of us went over to Nicks 24/7 pizza like usual.

Attendance count: About 10-11

December 2004 Meeting History

It seems the theme of this meeting was barcodes. I brought in about 30 “universal” VIP cards that have a VIP code for 3 different grocery stores, the other barcode is an “easter egg.” RAX brought his scanner and a laptop equip with some java software that can decode the 2d barcode on the back of a drivers ID, so we played with that. dec33var brought a few 1d barcode scanners with him. Zapperlink had some great info on Krypto. Also rhy0t brought some lock picks and a couple locks, we tried picking them for a while, she was the only one to get both locks, a few of us got the easier master(?)lock (I got it, yay me).

Attendance count: About 12-15

November 2004 Meeting History

There was a good deal of gear that came to this meeting. I brought the Zenith 286 laptop with a snazzy monochrome screen saver programmed by Medicine_Soup. Rax brought an optical mouse (to gut out) and a cuecat. ArchAngel brought a bunch of tone dialers and handed them out. RetroTech brought some old software on floppies for the laptop. I also brought my OOPIC again. There was a lot of talk on retro computing and some talk of urban exploration (we thought about looking around the abandoned restaurant a few shops down, but that never materialized). After that, most of us cruised over to Nicks Pizza and got a bite to eat…well, we also tried screwing with their pay phone too (602-240-9970).

October 2004 Meeting History

Special Agent Tom Liffiton was present this time, it made for a more interesting meeting. We discussed some P.A.T.R.I.O.T ACT issues with him; predominantly the “library” one. He also discussed the priorities of the FBI, a few of them not being RIAA and MPAA. There was also some brief discussion on the Bernie S. and Kevin Mitnick cases. It was also interesting to hear that Special Agent Thomas Liffiton is a listener to BinRev and RFA; he inquired about HPR. It’s nice that there isn’t completely the “us vs. them” mentality, and the reality is true sometimes too. There were a couple of new faces to this meeting, including my good friend Medicine Soup.

Attendance count: About 12

September 2004 Meeting History

Special Agent Tom Liffiton was supposed to show up again, but again, didn’t. That’s ok though, he’s probably very busy. We confronted the suspicious “FED” guy that is always there with a notebook. He says he’s writing a Sci-Fi…yeah, mmkay.

Attendance count: About 12
